The Lansdowne Apartments This stunning Queen Anne-style apartment building was James Brown’s first restoration project, completed in 1972. Built in 1893, the Lansdowne was designed by architect John C. Worthington as the extravagant gateway to the newly developed trolley-car community. Today, the restored Lansdowne is the cornerstone of the Parkside Historic District and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Lansdowne contains 19 one-bedroom apartment units.
The Brentwood Apartments This structure was built in 1897 as six elaborate, mansion-style townhomes, designed by the architect H.E. Flower. They were later converted into a massive apartment house. The Brentwood was PHPC’s most extensive restoration, and was the first property approved under the federal low-income tax credit program. Built in the late 19th century, this building had fallen into a deep state of disrepair. As a rebuilt, it required an entire gutting and interior rebuilding. PHPC restored it in parnership with Pennrose Properties.
Brantwood I PHPC finished restoring the Brantwood I, in 1993, and also managed the restoration of the Brantwood II (not shown) in conjunction with partner developer, Penrose Properties. The inset shows the Brantwood I before rehabilitation. 4220 Parkside Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104 • 215-473-4900 |
